Our Beginnings

The history of the Market is a bit lost to time – nobody seems to recall with certainty exactly when or by whom it was started. But collective memory dates it to the early 1970s. It has roved around, inhabiting more than five distinct locations in our historic town over the years.

Back in the day it was limited to local produce, and Ramona from El Alcon, Ernestina from San Miguel, and Tony from Puerto de Luna were some of the regular vendors from those early days.

We are grateful for all of the many people who have dedicated their time and energy to serving the Market and Community and kept us going for over 50 years!

The Market Today

Currently, the Tri-County Farmers Market operates year-round, gathering faithfully every Saturday in the parking lot at the corner of 6th St. and University Ave. in Las Vegas, NM.

Through the busy months we play host to a vibrant mosaic of over 30 vendors each week – a treasure trove where plant starts and lively rabbits mingle with eggs, meat, milk and cheese (for pets), baked goods, canned delights, herbal remedies/remedios, soap, lotions, crafts, jewelry, delectable ready-to-eat foods, the fragrant allure of fresh-cut flowers and a rainbow of all manner of produce. It’s a feast for the senses!

We have a dedicated team of volunteers who steer the ship – the Board of Directors, with elections held annually.

We occasionally host special community events and are always looking to grow and improve.

Our Structure

Board of Directors

Board Members are volunteers with elections held once a year; any vendor who has attended five or more Market days in a year is eligible to vote.

Partners and Sponsors

  • We would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to the Immaculate Conception Parish for the use of their parking lot, and Semilla Natural Foods for the use of electricity for our musicians and their restroom. Both of these generous partnerships have provided a pleasant and steady home for our Market for more than 10 years!
  • Interested in becoming a Sponsor to help our Market grow? Please reach out – we would love to hear from you!

Supermarkets don’t grow communities, farmers’ markets do. Each vibrant stall a testament to shared values, sustainable practices, and flavors bursting with the stories of our soil.
